hello!

My approach as both a knitter and designer has alw My approach as both a knitter and designer has always been that ultimately, you are in charge of your own knit. If you don’t like the technique the instructions tell you to use, you don’t have to use it.

But it is important to understand why the instructions include that technique before you decide whether to skip it. That’s because sometimes, even though we don’t like doing the technique, it produces a desirable result. Sometimes there are other ways to achieve that result, but sometimes there aren’t.

Once you understand the technique, you are better equipped to make informed decisions for yourself and your knitting process.

I didn’t know how to Magic Loop, and I don’t like knitting socks toe-up.

But since July, I’ve learned how to Magic Loop, and now I’m working on a project where I need to squeeze a pair of socks out of just 50 g of yarn when mine usually take 65. I’m going to be using every inch of that yarn, so toe-up it is!

This is one of my favorite things about knitting: no matter how long you’ve been doing it, there’s still more to learn.
