Mending for Knitters: A Free Printable

I’m primarily a sock knitter, and we sock knitters deal with one problem more often than a lot of other knitters do.  Our knits wear out quickly. That means we become experts in mending our knits pretty quickly, too. Whether you prefer a good darn, a knit-on patch, or some duplicate stitch before a full-on hole appears, if you’re a sock knitter, you’ve probably spruced up a sock or two in your time.

But one challenge that has always frustrated me is keeping track of my scraps for mending. I tend to toss all my leftover bits of yarn into a bin, but that bin gets jumbled and things can disappear.  And finally, it hit me: I needed a system where I could keep the yarn and the label together, easily flip through my files to find what I need, and ensure I had some matching yarn on hand to mend at least some of the holes I knew would be coming.

I like binders, so I made a binder insert that will help me keep track of everything I need to mend my socks. I’ve printed my pages on cover stock so they’re a little thicker and can hold up to the extra weight of the yarn taped to them.

Each page has a space to keep track of the label, a space to tape in a good amount of yarn for future mending, and a space for notes. If you want to go the extra length and alphabetize your binder, just print the sheets one-sided instead of double-sided.
