Madeleine Hat and Mitts Knitting Patterns

I’ve been naming my patterns for baked goods for a while, now, but usually the connection between the name and the pattern is a little more obscure.

This one is really simple: the columns of cables reminded me of madeleines. That’s it. Happy stitching!

Sizes

Madeleine Hat: finished circumferences 17.5” (20”, 22.5”)/ 45 cm (51 cm, 57 cm) Madeleine Mitts: finished circumference 7 (7.5, 8) inches /18 (19, 20.5) cm

Materials

Both the hat and the mitts use fingering weight yarn, and are shown in Moondrake Yarn Co. Soft Fingering, 437 yd/100 gm, single-ply superwash merino wool.  The hat uses 180 (220, 280) yds; 165 (202, 253) m, and the mitts use 150 (170, 190) yards / 138 (156, 174) m.

The hat needs one stitch marker, and the mitts need three stitch markers as well as two pieces of waste yarn for holding thumb stitches. Both patterns need a tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Tools

Both patterns are written for intermediate knitters, and use cabling, increases, decreases, and knitting in the round.
